Reading Power Revisited: Comprehension Across the Curriculum
In the age of inquiry-based learning, how do we create a learning environment where students are re-thinking rather than re-telling? How do we provide enough structure AND flexibility for students to explore, stretch and reflect on their thinking and construct meaning? In this session, the BC teacher and author will share and explore the concept of inquiry through the lens of her Reading Power approach. She will share many examples of lessons and units centred around deep thinking and learning in all subject areas.
Adrienne Gear has been a teacher with the Vancouver school board for over 25 years. She has worked as a classroom teacher, teacher-librarian and district Literacy Mentor. She continues to teach part-time, as well as provide professional workshops, demonstration lessons and leadership sessions to schools and districts throughout the province and across the country, as well as internationally. Adrienne is the author of six professional books including Reading Power, Powerful Understanding and her latest writing book: Powerful Writing Structures. Adrienne currently lives in Kelowna with her family.
